November 5, 2024

On the eve of one of the most critical election cycles in United States history, I urge each of you to reflect on the importance of your vote.

Today, November 5th, is not just another day—it is a pivotal opportunity for us, as members of federally recognized tribes, to assert our sovereignty and influence the future of our communities.
As Native citizens, we are deeply responsible for engaging with our Members of Congress and candidates. We must educate them on their legal and moral obligations to tribal nations, conveying that our unique status as sovereign entities must be recognized and respected. The outcome of this election will shape the direction of our communities for generations to come.
Voting goes beyond a privilege; it is a solemn duty—a reflection of the sacrifices made by our ancestors, who fought fiercely for our right to choose our leaders. By exercising our voice at the polls, we honor their legacy and ensure that our policy goals are advanced and our sovereignty upheld.
This election year brings a unique chance to elect representatives genuinely committed to upholding the federal government’s treaty and trust obligations to Indian Tribes. The presence of Native American representatives in Congress and state legislatures not only holds them accountable but also inspires younger voters, promoting greater participation in the political process.
Regardless of political affiliation—be it Republican, Democrat, or Independent—let us prioritize the interests of Indian Country and our sovereignty. We must actively engage with candidates and advocate for policy proposals that reflect our priorities. Our choices at the polls will determine whose voices resonate in Congress, the White House, and at every level of government.
Now is the time for Indian Country to unite and make our presence known. Each vote matters, and every tribal citizen’s voice deserves to be heard. As we approach the 2024 elections, our participation is crucial in shaping outcomes, especially in key battleground states. Together, let us catalyze change, secure our rights, and ensure our contributions to the nation are recognized.
The future lies in our hands—let’s embrace this moment and make our collective voice resound with unwavering clarity.
